Robert Platshorn
Personal Information
Robert Platshorn also known as Bobby Tuna was not just a well documented South Florida Cannabis smuggler of the 70’s. He was much more… a Legendary Pitchman, Aviator, Author, Big Game Fisherman of Notoriety, and Cannabis Advocate. Soon after his release from Federal Prison (nearly 30 years) he founded The Silver Tour, educating seniors of the benefits of medical marijuana. Trulieve soon took notice, and through Bobby’s tireless efforts the medical bill was passed in Florida.
Bobby was fortunate to have many friends and family that welcomed him back after such a long time away. Platshorn had spent nearly 30 years in over nine camps and penitentiaries.
Upon his release on April Fools day 2007, Bobby never looked back and it was full speed ahead. His self published book Black Tuna Diaries was already completed while still in prison. With the help of nephew Jon, he soon struck a deal with Raconteur films (producers of Cocaine Cowboys), and is featured in their film Square Grouper, available to view on Amazon.
Soon after, with the help of Walter Collins, Platshorn produced the short documentary titled, “Should Grandma Smoke Pot?”. This documentary was featured on Comedy Central’s Daily Show, hosted by Jon Stewart.
Trulieve’s support of Bobby and The Silver Tour were paramount in getting the medical program passed here in Florida. With Trulieve’s backing, The Silver Tour was able to crisscross the state of Florida, educating seniors of the benefits of medical cannabis. It was brilliant!
Black Tuna was Trulieve’s second partner after Sunshine Cannabis. We are very proud of that! Robert’s legacy lives on through his three strains, Black Tuna, Bluefin, and Yellowfin. Bobby passed on April Fools day 2023, fifteen years to the day he regained his freedom. May this memory always be a blessing.
There are still people locked up for marijuana. Don’t give up the fight! Bobby fought to the end.
